Digipak
My digipak will between 4 and 6 sides, including front cover, reverse cover, spine and disk impression.
Digipak is a style CD or DVD packaging used to promote a paticular artist.
Conventions of a digipak:
A digipak is a promoting technique that can be used to contain the the music video disk, however the main purpose is to promote the music video its supposed to be a main factor of catching the audiences attention, its also a first impression if youve never really heard of the artist you can get the feel of what their music taste and personality is by looking at it e.g. comparing katy perry's cd albulm/digipak hers is very bright and colourful it represents and implies a happy pop type of genre:
the type of audience who would go for this type of music would be mainly teenage girls as noticed theres no explicit warning lyrics sign on this albulm so all ages can listen / purchase this album compared to an album from an artist such as Dr Dre as this displays an animation of a canibus plant which may be offensive to some people and not suitible for younger people as it may set a bad example/ hypodermic syringe model it injects images into the passive audience it also has a warning explict lyric content badge which again narrows down the audience type so they must be a responsible age as it doesnt state what age but its most likely that if a teenager (who this type of music is actully aimed at most likely 16+ teenage boys) may need a parent/ gaurdian to purchase this item anyway, so it works ina very differnt way to katy perrys albulm it almost detters some types of audience away from it to narrow it down to a certain type of audience:
I have been looking at the 3 seperate artists album covers to take ideas and see how i can merge all ideas together to create our digipak cover.
The first artist i looked at was B.O.Bs album cover;
As you can see again this cover shows an explicit lyrics print on it, and in our song their is some lanuage which some people may find offensive so this is an idea we could take on board, his album cover however is very bold and eye catching alot is going on but the main /center of our attraction goes straight to b.o.b which again hes the main artist in our song so we could make him stand out the most.

This album brings out a slightly estranged kind of image, its a mix between gothic/punk and teenage pop rock , it shows a bold statement thought the bright red couch stands out infront of the dusky tinted background, almost messing around like teenagers would, (as you would never put a sofa outside it shows a teenagers troublesome side.)
The next album cover i looked at was Eminems as he makes differnt styles in his music he makes funny songs quite up beat rythms :
he demonstrates a stereotypical them of the male gaze seeing women as sex objects:
he also does typical gangster themed rap songs:
and moving personal sad rap songs so it was quite confusing which sort of style to go for.
But considering our song choice has a more emotinal personal theme i think we should take ideas from the nearest album cover above as it does display the angry deep personal seroius side to eminem and his verse in our song choice is the most powerful and emotional one so it wouldnt set the theme if we chose a type a style from the two examples from the top as it does go with the theme.
So our design will be quite bold but i like the idea of using the red contrast writing against the dusky grey colouring as it creates an effective appeal it attracts the audiences attention.

Cast and roles
Cast:
Ash Scott: Eminem- he is to perform a rap verse in a strong , aggressive tone , but also a confident accomplishing way to show hes done well for himself .
Gideon: B.O.B- he is to perform rapping verses and to act some parts of story lines such as establishing rough area of towns where he has lived this is to show his deprived life et c.
Kate: Haley Williams- is to perform the chorus we haven't really used and story lines for Kate.
Chelsea: Eminem s mother- to act out disturbing scenes of a mother loosing self control and affecting he son, by drinking excessivelly to avoid her problems but show she has but a huge burden on he vunrable young son.
Tom: Younger Eminem- this character is to gain empathy from the audience but also to explain why Eminem so angry about his past, (to establish the story lines).
group of teens: was a gang of bullies from Gideon past- they were to imply the violence he had endured before and the toughness of getting to where he is now its to imply the full moral of the story which is to suggest the theme of people who have a hard time can make it if they try its a song which describes hope.

More process of the editing
We have filmed all of our performers on the green screen this has been very useful as we can use the adobe premier pro to edit the screen shots and fit in throughout the music video we have been able to do al sorts of effects such as placing ash on top of the story line shots this gives the impression to the audience that hes describing his past and come across as a more aggressive tone to the verse:
Another use have found for the green screen is the background format we can use picture from the web such as the shooting star image directly below and then place the performers infront of this background which then turns out like below the blank shooting star.
Editing progress
At the moment the whole song is covered with video footage and different types of shots, we have used overall 5 main characters two of which are just actors in the storyline shots and the other three are both performers and actors in the storyline shots.
The shot below is an example of the female actress playing Eminem's incapable mother, we have shown this by showing her drinking excessively throughout the video, the affect we have used to show the audience that this is representing the past is the black and white effect we have used throughout the process of using adobe premier pro for the whole video.

Research on the Artists
B.O.B:
B.o.B was born Bobby Ray Simmons, Jr. on November 15, 1988 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Less than a month later, his family moved to Decatur, Georgia. He played the trumpet in his school band from elementary school through high school. Although his parents wanted him to continue his education, Simmons decided in sixth grade that he wanted to pursue a music career. His father, a pastor, disapproved of his son's choices until he realized that Simmons was using music as a form of therapy and a creative outlet. Simmons later reflected on his experience, saying, "They’ve always supported me. They got my first keyboard to make beats on and they helped me out getting equipment here and there. But it was kind of hard for them to really understand what I was really trying to accomplish." B.o.B went to Columbia High School in Decatur, GA.
Hailey Williams:
In 2002, at the age of 13, Williams moved from her hometown, Meridian, Mississippi, to Franklin, Tennessee,. She met former band members Josh Farro and Zac Farro in her new school. While still in school, she tried out for a local funk cover band called The Factory where she met Jeremy Davis.
Williams was discovered in 2003 by managers Dave Steunebrink and Richard Williams who signed the 14-year-old to a production deal. According to former manager Jeff Hanson in an interview with HitQuarters, at the time she was writing pop songs with top songwriters in Nashville. Williams was introduced to Atlantic Records A&R Tom Storms through Richard's attorneys Jim Zumwalt and Kent Marcus, and then signed to the label by Jason Flom. The label's original plan for their new artist was to make her a solo pop artist but Williams objected to this, saying that she wanted to be part of a band and play 'alternative rock' music. Atlantic decided to go along with her wishes and she then formed Paramore with Josh Farro, Zac Farro, and Jeremy Davis.
The music of Paramore was originally supposed to come out on Atlantic Records but the label's marketing department decided it would be better for the image of the band to not have them attached to a huge label. They instead released their music through a "cooler" niche label in Fueled by Ramen, with the debut album being released in 2005 when Hayley was only 16 years old.

How much done so far ?
So far me and sian have filem various shots of all our actors performing , we used kate on the piano and on a roof top. We have used Ash infront of brick walls to give a good background setting so it look quite rough and also in our school gym as in the lyrics it mentions about performing in a gym how he would never make it this implies to the audience he rebel other peoples predictions of him and he has determination to prove them wrong it also shows his slightly arrogant side to him ( rubbing it in their face, as he has made it) . Filming Gideon seemed to go the best when it came to various settings and shots as he has recently moved to Lincoln across pelumn bridge in a poor area which looks a stereotypical rough area where B.O.B describes he used to live , this will make our video look more realistic, we have shots on a graffitied train bridge, in HMV as they gave us permission to do so, in elevators and around back streets etc. this will just show the audience an example of what is was like for him to grow up. We have also filmed a group of people from the boarding house around 7 people who took part 6 of which were pretending to be the gang and the other was the younger B.O.B, it shows him getting attacked this will manipulate the audience into feeling very sorry for him and seeing his unfortunate childhood.

As our song is a mixture between hip hop, rap and pop rock the artists have formed it into a serious/ sad song that describes their lives it was difficult to find this type of genre however one artist in this song ( Eminem) has produced similar songs like this before such as Stan , love the way you lie, and one called beautiful below if the video clip to that particular song:

In this music RNB video it starts off similar to the 'Smack that' video it starts with an intro however this ones last for about 1 minute but it shows emnin at a rehabilitaion counsilling group of some sort and telling them the story as he then goes into rapping we see the story hes telling them about his life , again we see shots of him just rapping which is clever becasue we see him rapping infront of the group of rehab people, (it shows that he feels he is no differnt from them like other celebrities feel they are supeior) he demonstrates he is still a normal person he doesnt feel hes any btter than them, the costume is all very casual and then when it shows him performing hes dressed smart in a tie and suit, where as his daughter and wife are shown in casual wear to represent them wanting to be a normal family. the lighting is quite dull this could show the sad side to the video as its about his problem with himself and the effects on his family. theres little make up used except from the hair dye which represents eminems two very differnt personalities marshall mathers ( the caring father who just wants his family) and Slim Shady ( the corrupt side to him the one who he blames his mistakes e.g. his violent oubursts and drug problems this is shown by using the mirror where we see him breaking the mirror as he sees the reflection of slim shady who he has grown to hate , theres also another use of mirro where we see kim and hailey together but obviously in a bad way which he blames himself for.
In this RNB music ( so sick, NEYO ) video the screen is split into 3 sections you see the performer and story in the midlle section and the two outer sections show the setting of the music video ( in the snowy mountains) this is a constant moving shot of a high shot over mountains. we still see shots of the performer but again it fades away to the story line more, the costume is all big warm clothing as it is set in an iclandic setting. the make up is used mainly only the girl hes lost to show her beautiful; side and show why he fell for her. the lighting is very bright and bold but its a cold lighting which could represent his loneliness, the props used are mainly household objesct around the house such as one line said "i gotta change that answering machine and it cut to a shot of an answering machine.This music video demonstrates a typical breakup and the issues that come with the break up we see some of the past time with him and his girlfriend however he is the main character and we do not see her in present tense like we do with him.
In this RNB video ( smack that by Eminem and Akon) it glamourizes crime by creating a glamourous appeal to akon been a convict on the run, it also represtents women in a stereotypical way the 'male gaze' where women are presented in a certain way just to appeal men theyve done this very blunty as this music video is based in s strip club. They have used shots of the performers and they have created a storyline of the strip club and finding a certain girl they use the shot of the performer to cutway too. The music video doesnt start striaght away with the song there is a 37 second intro story plot that is used to show the audience what is happening it also is a good technique to get their attention. The costume is ganster style for the men they are dressed either smart black suits or like eminem typical baggy shirts and some form of bling which is very obvious, where as the women are seen with as little as possible to create the sexy appeal (male gaze towards men). the make up used is on the women this is again to make them look beautiful and sexy ( male gaze). the lighting is supposed to be set at night time so the lights in the club are very dim this could of been to create a stereotypical seady theme to a strip club.

Introduction
I am now in a group with just me and sian , we have decided after our questionnaire that it would be better to do a dong from a RNB genre because that was the most popular choice. Our song choice now is a collaboration between Eminem, B.O.B, and Hayley Williams. This song that we are doing the video to is called Air planes., there are two songs the one that we are doing is part two , there hasn't yet been a music video to this song however there was for part one

Planning
Our group is with four people including me, for our project we have decided to go for a genre of music such a band music this is because we want to use a few students to act as their the band we can use footage of them playing instruments and performing this would look good in our video as it breaks up the music video into bits and makes it more interesting. an example or a video that we would like to do such a story based video but with cutaway to the band playing is e.g "Fall out boy: sugar were going down"
